Now his growing feelings for the blacksmith have endangered both their freedom and their lives. The prince's dragon is the last male in the fortress, his value beyond price, and there are enemies who will do anything to make the prince submit...

Rating: 4 stars.I loved the characters in this book. I fell in love with both MCs. The things that both characters go through in this book just broke my heart. Especially Kyralian. The author really takes him to a dark place. I loved all the secondary characters as well. I was a bit disappointed in the ending. I think that it is do more to my personal tastes than it was a bad ending.
The world of dragons that Ms Owens created was just fascinating. The dragons themselves were wonderful. I would really love to read another book set in this world. I highly recommend this book.

Really enjoyed this story. I liked the way you could get a dragons personality and humor in the writing. I liked bren... he more than proved himself the Prince did to. It was touching the sacrifices that the Prince went through.more than anyone should hAve to.
Wonderful story as always from Ms Owens. No easy love story here, but a rich, full story of love, pain and sacrifice. I enjoy a story with depth and struggle but tempered with deep feelings and commitment and this story fits the bill, in spades. Always a pleasure to read this author; she's an automatic purchase for me even without reading the story description first.
I quite enjoyed this book. I do wish it had been a bit longer, but that did not diminish the story or the characters. The main relationship could have used a bit more of development as their relationship suffered as they both struggled accept the profound changes because of the ancient dragon magic.
I really liked the story development as far as the dragons and their riders were concerned. It was interesting to see that a dragon could shift their "bond" to someone else. I haven't seen that before. I was also interested in the fact that a dragon can take on the "mental illnesses" of their rider. Again, I haven't read that in other fantasy novels containing the rider/dragon bond.
I do hope that the author decides to expand this world, but I suppose that will depend on whether or not this was written as a "stand alone" story.
Either way, I enjoyed my time in this world.
This book started out really good...I liked Bren and I felt for Kryalian...I liked the world building as well.. Even tho I wished it was more detailed in some areas.... What killed it for me was the end of the book.. The changes in Kryalian didn't work for me.. The book was well written tho...this was my first book by this author and I will definitely continue reading her wrk..
My favorite thing about a J.C. Owens book is the absolute unique storyline and world building. This book grabbed me from the start and sucked me in and every time I thought I knew where it was going, I was proved wrong! The characters are so thought-provoking and honest/real. I love this book and will read it again and again.
Really nice character development at the beginning. The concepts in the novel are disturbing and not for the faint of heart, but if you can compartmentalize that out it is a good M/M sci-fi romance. I think the ending was rushed - almost like it was intended to be a much longer novel but the author needed to get it done on a deadline. And yes, I'll admit the ended was just "okay" and not worthy of the beginning of the book.
It would be interesting to take the last third and send it for a re-write...
The book was good, really good, almost epic. But the ending KILLED the book. Murder. Everything that the prince and Bren have been their whole relationship was wiped out because the prince took on new power and that scared Bren. So the prince got butt hurt and moved out. The epilogue was a year later and they still weren't together. All the love and the hurtles they have crossed, the understanding they both have of being abused, gone. So ultimately why even write the romance in the book? Y'all the ending set your thoughts for their future. And the author gave us a bleak one. Also there were so many loose ends. I like my ending wrapped in a neat flipping bow. I need reassurances that everything is gunna be okay.
